In the early years, we often distinguished 201 steel grades with high copper (J4) and mid-copper (J1), but with the development of lower copper content, there was born J3 instead of J1; then, J2 and J5 instead of J3.
201 J4 Stainless Steel: It’s a higher-end J series, which is suitable for deep drawing products especially the requirement of salt spray test.
For example, sinks, kitchen utensils, bathroom products, water bottles, vacuum flasks, door hinges, pots, etc.
201 J1 Stainless Steel: The carbon content is slightly higher than J4 and the copper content is lower than 201 J4.
Its processing performance is less than 201 J4, and suitable for ordinary shallow drawing, such as decorative boards, sanitary products, sinks, product tubes, etc.
201 J3 Stainless Steel: Suitable for ornament tubes. Simple processing on the decorative panel, but it’s not possible with a little difficult processing. There is feedback that the material was found an inner seam after bending and breaking (black titanium, color plate series, sanding plate,broken, folded out with inner seam).
The sink material has been tried to bend in 90 degrees, but it won’t be continued.
Ornament tubes: Simple ornament tubes are still good, because the hardness is high and the polishing result is more beautiful, but for the square tube or the curved tube (90°) is prone to breaking open.
Flat plate: due to the high hardness, the surface is more beautiful, and the surface treatment such as No.4, polishing and plating is no problem, but the biggest problem is the bending, it’s very easy to break when bending, and the groove is easy to break open. Poor ductility.
In short: if you need deep drawing more than 16cm, we suggest 201 J4 Stainless Steel, normally bending flat and decorative pipe, 201 J1 Stainless Steel is good enough, 201 J2 J5 Stainless Steel is hard to bend as HV250 up, also it's more easy to get rusty. 201 J3 Stainless Steel now our market barely use, as price difference is only 30usd/mt from 201 J1 Stainless Steel.
